Welcome to Nursery at Darton Primary.
Our class name is ‘Owlets’ as we are the youngest children in our school.
We have a class pet called Olly Owlet who likes to work with the children both at school and at home.
Our PE day is on a Wednesday and our library day is Friday.
Our days are built around us covering the seven areas of learning for the Early Years;
Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Our learning takes place in a variety of ways; through group times, focussed activities and enhancements for the children to access in the environment. Adult interactions are key and there is lots of chatter around the classroom, helping to develop our speaking and listening skills.
We have both indoor and outdoor classrooms and the children can choose where their focus lies each session. Careful enhancements and interactions help the children to expand their skills alongside their knowledge, giving opportunities to embed these skills through both guided and independent practice.
Here are some of the things we have been up to so far this year…
All our learning is based around topics, which gives the children lots of opportunity to build up their wider vocabulary, as well as presenting them with lots of different ways to practice and grow their skill set.
Our topics are taught over a two year cycle so there is always something new to learn, whichever term you join us in Nursery.
