Pastoral support plays a crucial role in helping children feel settled, confident, and ready to learn. We recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood, and our pastoral provision focuses on nurturing emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour, and strong relationships.

Our Pastoral Lead, Miss Lee Priestley, works closely with pupils and families in her role as Parent Support Advisor, providing guidance, early support, and practical help during challenging times. By working in partnership with parents, staff, and external services where needed, we aim to support the whole child, helping them to develop resilience, manage emotions, and successfully overcome any barriers to learning.

If you would like to speak to us about pastoral support, please contact the school office on 01226 394050 or speak to a member of staff. We are here to support in any way that we possibly can.

Early Help Assessments

Early Help is about offering support and guidance to families whenever it may be helpful, whether concerns are small or families would simply benefit from extra advice. We believe that all families can need support at different times, and Early Help is there to provide shared solutions, reassurance, and practical help. In school, we work in partnership with parents and carers in a supportive and respectful way, listening carefully and helping to identify what support might be useful. Families can also choose to explore further advice and resources through Barnsley Council’s Early Help services, which offer a range of information and support for parents, children, and young people. More details can be found on the Barnsley Council website under Early Help.

Barnsley’s Best Start Family Hubs

Barnsley’s Best Start Family Hubs are friendly, local services run by Barnsley Council that bring together help, advice, and activities for families from pregnancy right through to young people aged 19 (or 25 for those with SEND). They are designed to make it easier for families to find support in one place, without judgement, and at a time that feels right for them.

Families can access a wide range of support, which may include:

  • Health support such as health visitors, midwives, infant feeding advice, and wellbeing support
  • Parenting and family support, including advice, courses, and relationship support
  • Early years and school‑aged activities, like stay‑and‑play groups and help preparing children for school
  • SEND support and guidance
  • Signposting to other services for things like housing, childcare, finances, or emotional wellbeing

Support is available in hub buildings, community venues, online, or by phone, depending on what works best for families.
