Remote Education Information for Parents and Carers.

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency about what pupils and parents/carers can expect from remote education should circumstances require children to learn from home.

At DPS, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils continue to receive a high-quality education when they are unable to attend school. We strive to provide a remote learning experience that reflects the high expectations, quality teaching and support that pupils receive in the classroom.

Our Head of School, Mrs Fox, has overall responsibility for the quality and delivery of remote education, ensuring that provision meets the needs of all pupils and families.

Where remote education is required, we will implement our remote learning offer as quickly as possible and communicate arrangements to families promptly.

Our Remote Learning Approach

Remote learning is delivered through Seesaw, a platform that is used regularly in school and is familiar to our pupils.

We aim to provide learning that mirrors the curriculum being taught in school wherever possible. In some cases, adaptations may be necessary where specialist resources or equipment are required. Where this is the case, suitable alternative activities will be provided to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum successfully at home.

High expectations, high-quality teaching and strong engagement are the foundations of our remote learning offer.

How Long Should My Child Spend on Remote Learning?

We aim to provide learning that closely reflects a normal school day and enables pupils to continue making progress.

Pupils will typically complete the following sessions each day:

  • Session 1: LIRA or Phonics
  • Session 2: Literacy
  • Session 3: Mathematics
  • Session 4: Wider Curriculum

Learning activities are designed to provide approximately four hours of learning each day, including teacher input, independent work and feedback opportunities.

Teacher input for each session will usually last between 15 and 20 minutes, although this may vary depending on the age of pupils and the content being taught.

For younger children, sessions may be shorter and include more frequent opportunities to interact with staff throughout the day.

Staff will provide feedback through Seesaw to support pupils’ progress and next steps in learning.

Accessing Remote Learning

All remote learning activities will be made available through Seesaw.

As Seesaw is embedded within our teaching and learning provision, pupils are familiar with accessing activities and submitting work using the platform.

Individual Seesaw login details or QR codes will be provided to parents and carers where required.

Support for Pupils Without Digital Access

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable digital access at home.

To support families, we will:

  • Contact parents and carers to identify any barriers to accessing remote learning.
  • Provide loan devices, including laptops and iPads, where available.
  • Offer support with accessing online learning platforms.
  • Work with families to ensure pupils can continue to access their education.

If you require support with digital access, please contact school:

Quality of Teaching and Learning

Our remote learning provision is based on the same principles that underpin effective classroom teaching.

Remote lessons will include:

  • Clear explanations and teaching input.
  • Opportunities to practise and apply new learning.
  • Appropriate challenge and support for all pupils.
  • Regular feedback to support improvement.
  • Opportunities for discussion, reflection and assessment.

Learning objectives will be shared clearly so that pupils understand what they are learning and how to be successful.

Expectations for Pupils and Families

We have high expectations for all pupils and expect them to engage fully with the remote learning provided.

Pupils should:

  • Access all learning sessions where possible.
  • Complete and submit work within the expected timescales.
  • Take pride in the quality of their work.
  • Seek support when needed.

Parents and carers can support their child by:

  • Establishing regular daily routines.
  • Providing a quiet space to work where possible.
  • Encouraging participation and engagement.
  • Communicating with school if support is required.

All activities are designed to be completed as independently as possible and will be appropriately matched to pupils’ needs and abilities.

Monitoring Engagement

Teachers monitor pupil engagement in remote learning daily through Seesaw.

Where there are concerns about a pupil’s participation or engagement, staff will contact parents or carers to discuss how school can provide additional support.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential in ensuring children continue to learn successfully when working remotely.

Feedback and Assessment

Feedback is an important part of learning and helps pupils understand how to improve their work.

Staff will:

  • Maintain high expectations for all pupils.
  • Follow the school’s marking and feedback practices wherever appropriate.
  • Provide feedback through Seesaw.
  • Identify and communicate next steps in learning.
  • Monitor progress and adapt future learning accordingly.

Feedback may take a variety of forms, including written comments, verbal feedback, whole-class feedback or individual responses.

Support for Pupils with Additional Needs

We recognise that some pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), may require additional support to access remote learning successfully.

Teachers will:

  • Adapt learning activities where appropriate.
  • Provide personalised support and resources.
  • Work closely with families to identify barriers to learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers to ensure learning remains accessible and appropriate.

We are committed to working in partnership with families to ensure that all pupils can continue to engage meaningfully with their education.

Safeguarding and Online Safety

Safeguarding remains our highest priority.

All online communication between staff and pupils will take place through approved school platforms and in accordance with our safeguarding, online safety and acceptable use policies.

Parents and carers are encouraged to supervise their child’s online learning where appropriate and report any concerns to school immediately.

Further Support

If your child is experiencing difficulties accessing remote learning, requires additional support, or you have any questions about our remote education offer, please contact the school office. We will work closely with families to ensure every child can continue learning successfully.
