IntentAt Darton Primary School, we have a realistic approach with online safety. We aim to provide an education that promotes children using the internet for its benefits but makes them risk aware and able to use the internet safely. We do not believe in banning technology and the internet but instead in educating children around safe use and knowing where to report any problems. We work with parents/carers to provide a support network for children as they explore, communicate, learn and play online. We aim to provide children with the skills and parents with the support that is required for children to use technology safely both in and out of school.
Implementation Online safety is taught to all pupils and focused on in lessons in the first half term of each school year. The objectives that we teach are detailed in the computing progression document and many of them are taken from this document
As and when teachers feel that children need additional online safety lessons throughout the school year, these are provided to address particular areas. We listen carefully to what children say regarding the technology that they are using and tailor sessions around this.
ImpactThe children at Darton Primary School grow up using technology and the internet positively. They understand the benefits and drawbacks of different technologies and the internet. They use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognise acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and can identify a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact.
