At Darton Primary, excellent attendance is everyone’s responsibility. We know that regular, punctual attendance lays the foundation for strong academic outcomes, confident learners, and positive wellbeing. Every day in school matters. Each lesson builds on the last, and children who attend consistently are more likely to thrive—socially, emotionally, and academically.

We work closely with families, Barnsley Local Authority, and education partners to promote outstanding attendance across our school community. Our aim is to provide tailored support to families and remove barriers to attendance, so that every child has the best possible opportunity to succeed.

Our Attendance Officer is Lee Priestley. If you would like to discuss any attendance matter, please contact Miss Priestley via the school office on 01226 394050.

Elective Home Education (EHE)

At DPS, we recognise that parents have the right to choose to educate their child at home rather than at school. Elective Home Education (EHE) is a significant decision and we encourage families to discuss this with the school before making any arrangements so that we can help them consider all available options and support. Parents who choose to educate their child at home take full responsibility for providing a suitable full-time education appropriate to their child’s age, ability and aptitude. The school will follow the guidance set out by the Department for Education and work with the Local Authority to ensure that all legal requirements are met when a child is withdrawn from roll for home education.

For further information, please refer to the Department for Education’s/ BMBC’s guidance on Elective Home Education and contact the school if you would like to discuss this option further.
